“The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow.” – Nelson Mandela

Leadership is a skill that all parents want for their children. These skills can help children have a bright future. The spirit of leadership helps children have control over their lives and their ability to make things happen.

These skills help them gain confidence and can find solutions to problems creatively and be able to work with others. Leadership gives children the opportunity to develop responsibility.

Children can learn to develop these skills. In schools, teachers have helped children practice these skills, for example by being class leaders, answering questions, doing group work, and so on. The school offers learning opportunities with these skills. But as a parent, you can do more to help your child build these skills.

There are five ways that can help you impart these skills in your child’s future as a potential leader.

Set a good example. A leader must set a good example for its members. As a parent, you also need to do this, as a leader for your child. When you become an example of a good leader in allocating time for family and work, this shows your child a real example of how to be a true leader.

Teach children to solve their own problems. Teach your children to find solutions to their problems. For example, when there is a fight between children, let them find solutions to solve their problems. This will build their habits in their ability to solve problems and become reliable leaders in the future.

Become a leader who is willing to listen. Even though they become a leader, it is important for the leader to have listening skills to their members or teams. Therefore, teach children to have the ability to listen when involved in discussions or even arguments. This will help them learn to be good listeners. A good leader is a leader who is willing to listen to every input and thought of their members.

Practice communication skills. Leaders need skills in speaking. This helps a leader appear more trustworthy in leading members and a big deal. You can teach children to practice communication. For example, when eating together at a restaurant, you can ask children to order food. Allowing them to order and talk to someone in person will train them to gain the confidence of being able to communicate what they need.

Appreciate children’s optimistic thinking. Optimistic thinking is closely related to success. When children have optimistic thoughts about doing something well, support and encourage them. Great leaders have big goals.

Therefore, when you find that your child is trying to do something that seems challenging, you should be the number one supporter in their big effort to do something. Even when they fail, you still must support and praise their efforts.

With the five ways above, you can help train your children to prepare themselves to be future leaders. Good luck, dear parents!
